this again?

You may have heard. Especially if you live in the Bay Area. Local radio-TV news guy Pete Wilson is against “non-tradtional” families.

I don’t have a lot of time to dwell on this, but I need to say something. I need to say something because it really pisses me off. It really pisses me off because of statements like this:

Look around you, folks. You think the high divorce rate in this country has been, generally speaking, good for kids? So, why not start out divorced? See if that’ll work.

Why is that whenever someone comes out against non-traditional families or homosexual marriage or gay folks having kids they always use this argument that the kids of divorce are all kinds of fucked up? I take a large amount of personal offense to this rational because I am the product of divorce. And my brother and I are anything but fucked up. And I have a lot of friends who are also the children of divorce. And they aren’t fucked up either. Was there some study done somewhere that said, “Oh my god! Fucked up offspring of divorce parents are running rampant! We must do something! Why won’t somebody please think about the children!?!?”

The other reason why it pisses me off is because, c’mon Pete! You think this is really a problem? You think this is really the reason the world is coming to end? You think that whether or not a gay guy and a lesbian have a kid is really going be the death knell of Western civilization? I mean, I used to respect you. You’re a local boy. But now?

Don’t we have more important things to worry about?

I swear to god. If this country’s journalists and politicians spent a tenth of the amount of time the spend worrying about what people are doing in their bedrooms worrying about the multitude of international and domestic crisis facing us… well, you get the idea.
